I am currently creating courses in which students will learn to apply critical thinking skills to popular historical narratives as well as current political affairs. Since the public educational system functions as one of the primary tools of indoctrination, it is not surprising that the most "educated" people in our society actually struggle the most with critical thinking. I graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Combined Honours in History and Political Science, and then earned a teaching degree from Nipissing University. When I woke up to 9/11, I soon realized that several other popular narratives that I had been teaching to my students were also bogus. Unfortunately, I had my teaching license revoked shortly afterwards since I was unwilling to teach lies to children. Although I now work as a carpenter, in my heart I'm still a history teacher.
In the first course that I am developing, students will break down historical narratives such as 9/11, explore topics such as the Great Pyramids of Giza, and learn to interpret propaganda in order to develop critical thinking skills. Students will then learn to apply these critical thinking skills to current affairs and learn to distinguish between misinformation and disinformation. The structure of the courses are flexible and a literacy component is optional. Please contact me for more information if you are interested.
